About the Activity
College costs can be confusing, and students may not always know which numbers matter most. In this module, students complete the College Cost Decoder, reflect on key cost and financial aid terms, and identify questions they can bring to a counselor, trusted adult, or college financial aid office.
- Explain the difference between sticker price and estimated net price.
- Identify costs beyond tuition, including housing, meals, books, transportation, and personal expenses.
- Recognize the difference between grants, scholarships, and loans.
- Understand that loan offers are optional and accepted loans generally must be repaid with interest.
- Identify questions to ask before deciding whether a college may be affordable.
